Raising Our Breeding Dogs as Beloved Family Pets
At Gold Coast Cavoodles, we believe our breeding dogs deserve the same thing we want for every puppy we raise — a life filled with love, companionship, adventure and family.
That is why we have created our Guardian Home Program.
Rather than keeping all of our breeding dogs within our own home, we carefully place selected puppies with wonderful Guardian Families. These dogs grow up as much-loved family pets, enjoying everything a normal Cavoodle should — cuddles on the couch, daily walks, adventures, training, socialisation and being part of a family.
The only difference is that they also have an important role within our breeding program.
What Is a Guardian Home?
A Guardian Home is a carefully selected family who welcomes one of our future breeding dogs into their home and raises them as their own.
You provide the love, companionship and everyday family life, while Gold Coast Cavoodles remains responsible for the dog’s breeding program and breeding-related care.
Your dog is not living in a kennel or spending its life at a breeder’s home.
They are your family pet.
Our Guardian Dogs enjoy a normal home life and are treated exactly as we believe every dog should be — as a cherished member of the family.
From time to time, they will return to Gold Coast Cavoodles for breeding-related requirements.
What Happens When Your Dog Is a Female?
Our female Guardian Dogs generally remain with their Guardian Family until they are mature enough to commence their breeding journey, usually around two years of age.
When the time comes, she may return to Gold Coast Cavoodles for:
Health & Reproductive Testing
To ensure she is healthy and suitable to continue in our breeding program.
Mating
She will spend the required time with us for mating and reproductive management.
Pregnancy & Whelping
When she is ready to have her puppies, she will return to us to be cared for throughout her pregnancy, whelping and the early stages of raising her litter.
Returning Home
Once her puppies are weaned and she is ready, she returns to her Guardian Family to continue life as your beloved family pet.
For many families, this also provides a wonderful opportunity to take a holiday or enjoy some time away, knowing their girl is being lovingly cared for by the team who bred her.
What About Our Male Guardian Dogs?
Our male Guardian Dogs generally have much less time away from their families.
Depending on the breeding program, a male may only need to come to us for a few days when required for mating.
Health testing is generally a short visit and may only require a day at the veterinary clinic.
Why Do We Use Guardian Homes?
Our Guardian Program is about quality of life and responsible breeding.
We intentionally keep only a small number of breeding dogs within our own home. This allows us to focus on providing exceptional care, attention, enrichment and socialisation without overcrowding.
Our Guardian Dogs get to experience the best of both worlds:
A loving family life
They live in a home, receive individual attention and enjoy being a much-loved pet.
A carefully managed breeding program
They are health tested and carefully selected to contribute to the future of our Cavoodle program.
A lifelong family
Once their breeding journey is complete, they remain with their Guardian Family as a beloved pet for life.
We believe this is one of the most rewarding ways to responsibly raise breeding dogs.
Why Become a Guardian Family?
Welcome an Exceptional Cavoodle Into Your Family
Guardian puppies are carefully selected by Gold Coast Cavoodles based on their health, temperament, structure, genetics and suitability for our future breeding program.
You get to raise an exceptional Cavoodle from puppyhood while enjoying the reduced Guardian purchase price.
Guardian Puppy Fee: $1,500 (Non-refundable)
A $500 deposit is required to secure your place in our Guardian Program.
The remaining amount is payable in accordance with your Guardian Agreement.
Please note that Guardian placements are based on the suitability of available puppies and our breeding plans. We cannot guarantee a particular colour, gender, size or specific litter.
Understanding the Waiting Period
Nature always has the final say when it comes to breeding.
A planned litter may not result in a pregnancy, a dam may have a very small litter, or there may not be a suitable puppy available from a particular litter.
If this happens, your placement will simply move to the next suitable litter.
There is no guaranteed timeframe for receiving a Guardian puppy.
Families considering our Guardian Program must be comfortable waiting until the right puppy becomes available.
Your $500 deposit is non-refundable, however, your placement can be transferred to another suitable litter in accordance with our Guardian Agreement.
We believe it is important to be completely transparent about this before joining our program.
What Does the Guardian Family Provide?
Being a Guardian Family means providing your dog with the same love and care you would provide to any family pet.
This includes:
- A loving and safe home environment
- Quality nutrition
- Regular grooming
- Exercise and enrichment
- Training and socialisation
- Up-to-date vaccinations
- Regular worming and parasite prevention
- Appropriate veterinary care
- Plenty of love, attention and companionship
You are responsible for the normal everyday costs of owning and caring for your family pet.
What Does Gold Coast Cavoodles Provide?
We remain closely involved throughout your dog’s entire breeding journey.
Gold Coast Cavoodles covers the breeding-related costs, including:
- Required health testing
- Reproductive testing
- Mating
- Pregnancy-related care
- Whelping care
- Breeding-related veterinary care
- Care of the litter while your dog is with us
- Desexing once the Guardian Agreement has been fulfilled
We will also work closely with you regarding transport and scheduling whenever your dog needs to attend us or a veterinary appointment.
Where Do Our Guardian Families Need to Live?
Our ideal Guardian Families are located within approximately two hours of the Gold Coast.
We may also consider families located further away where we have established relationships with reproductive veterinarians.
If you are outside our preferred area, we simply need to ensure that you are able to assist with transport arrangements when your dog needs to attend Gold Coast Cavoodles or a veterinary appointment.
How Many Litters?
Our female Guardian Dogs are generally required to complete up to four litters as part of their Guardian Agreement.
A litter consisting of only one or two puppies does not count as a completed litter under our Guardian Program.
The individual requirements for each dog will be outlined clearly in your Guardian Agreement before you commit.
What Happens When Their Breeding Journey Is Over?
This is one of the most special parts of our Guardian Program.
Once your dog’s breeding journey is complete, they remain with you as your family pet for life.
There is no need for them to find a new home.
They have spent their life growing up with you, and they get to continue enjoying the family they know and love.
Gold Coast Cavoodles also covers the cost of their desexing once the Guardian Agreement has been fulfilled.

Our Guardian Families become an important part of the Gold Coast Cavoodles family.
We stay involved, provide support and work closely with you throughout your dog’s journey.
Our Guardian Dogs often visit us, making our home and team familiar to them. This helps make any necessary stays for breeding or whelping as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
We want our Guardian Families to feel supported every step of the way.
Why It Matters
For us, the Guardian Program is ultimately about welfare.
We want our breeding dogs to experience a full and happy life outside of breeding.
They should have a family to come home to, a couch to sleep on, people to love them, walks to enjoy and a life filled with all the things that make being a dog so wonderful.
At the same time, we can continue our carefully planned breeding program without overcrowding our home or compromising the individual care we provide to our dogs.
It allows us to focus on producing healthy, happy and well-adjusted Cavoodles while ensuring our breeding dogs are genuinely loved family members first.
